A 2 seater buggy in Hurghada is the normal way to drive in the desert as a couple: two seats side by side, belts, a steering wheel and pedals. One of you drives behind the guide; the other sits next to the driver, which is a very different experience from holding on behind someone on a double quad.

The vehicle is simple. The money is where people get caught out. Some sellers price a buggy for two as one vehicle, others charge two per-person prices, and the listing title rarely tells you which.

2 seater buggy Hurghada: the standard unit

Two seats is what you get unless you ask for something else. One Makadi sunset buggy seller states "one buggy per 2 persons". A Polaris RZR listing in Hurghada sells a double buggy for two people and a family buggy for four. One reseller's spider-car trip offers a solo buggy, a two-seater or a four-seater, and Makadi Excursions packages its spider buggies by vehicle, with 1–2 or 3–4 seats.

An agency description of the Hurghada buggies sums them up as side-by-side two-seaters with a steering wheel, seat belts and a roll cage. "Spider car", "baggy" and "sand buggy" on a menu all mean the same vehicle. For everything else about buggies in Hurghada (routes, ages, safety) see the main buggy guide.

Buggy for two: per person or per buggy?

Compare the cost for both of you, not the number in the headline. On most platform listings two adults in one buggy pay two per-person prices, and the solo buggy, where offered, is the expensive option. Some sellers do the opposite and price the whole vehicle.

Examples of per-vehicle pricing, quoted as each seller lists them (at the last check):

Seller Trip Price
musement.com (TUI's activity platform) morning dune buggy, 4 h from £42 per buggy for a group of 2–4
Makadi Excursions, own site 2-h spider buggy to a natural beach from €50 per buggy package
Safari Sahara, own booking site morning Polaris RZR, 3 h €150 double / €200 family

On GetYourGuide the buggy-only trips start at about $45 for the Makadi Bay desert and beach buggy, about $56 for the dune buggy safari with optional BBQ, about $78 for the VIP buggy and camel safari with BBQ and stargazing and about $95 for the sunset dune buggy. Open the option list before you compare: if the price is per buggy, the $95 trip may cost less for two than it looks. Our price guide sets all trip types side by side.

Never convert one seller's euros or pounds into another's dollars and call it a saving. Add the extras instead: pick-ups from Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna, Soma Bay or Safaga often cost €5–15 per person, and scarves and goggles about €5 each at the station.

Driver or passenger: who sits where

The passenger seat is the better seat for photos and for anyone nervous. You see the same desert, you are belted in, and you are not steering through someone else's dust cloud. The driver keeps the convoy speed and watches the buggy in front, so the driver takes few pictures.

Swapping halfway is the obvious idea for couples who both want to drive. None of the listings we checked says whether it is allowed. Ask the seller before you book and again at the briefing; if both drivers must pass the test drive, say so at the start.

Driver age depends on the seller: 18 on TUI's Travco buggies, 16 on other sellers that state a limit. No licence is asked, though one Travco evening buggy listing says "driving knowledge is needed". If only one of you drives a car at home, that person should take the wheel.

Double buggy Hurghada with a child

A two-seater is the family answer when one parent and one child go: the adult drives, the child sits alongside. Travco takes one passenger aged 4 or older per buggy and no children under 4; one agency takes passengers from 3. Nobody under 16 drives.

With two adults and a child you need either two buggies or a four-seat family buggy. Ask which the seller has: the family option is not on every listing. Our kids guide covers ages for every vehicle, including why a buggy usually beats a double quad for a small child.

What a two-person buggy trip looks like

A typical morning buggy trip for two (times vary by seller and hotel)
  1. Minibus pick-up at your Hurghada hotelearlier from El Gouna, Soma Bay and Safaga

  2. Arrival at the safari station in Safari Land, on the Safaga roadscarf and goggles on sale, about €5 each

  3. Briefing and test drive; decide who drives firstask here whether you may swap later

  4. Convoy drive into the desert, one buggy per coupleabout 60–90 minutes at the wheel on buggy-only trips

  5. Stop at a Bedouin-style camp: tea, bread, a short camel rideherb and souvenir stand; nothing is compulsory

  6. Drive back to the stationin summer the heat builds fast after 10:00

  7. Minibus back to the hotelroughly 3–4 hours door to door

On a quad-and-buggy combo the buggy part is much shorter, often 15–30 minutes. If driving together is the point, book a buggy-only trip. The super safari guide explains what the combos contain.

Comfort, back and health

Listings say buggies are not recommended for pregnant travellers, people with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. The passenger feels every bump too, so these warnings apply to both seats. On combos the jeep transfer is often the roughest part.

Belts matter. Check yours closes and stays closed before the convoy leaves, and ask for a helmet: the UK Foreign Office's advice on quad and desert trips is to always wear one (https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/egypt/safety-and-security). Expect to sign a waiver, and read what it says about damage to the buggy.

Wear long trousers, closed shoes and sunglasses or goggles. Carry a passport copy: Travco asks for passport and visa on its buggy trips. Check that your travel insurance covers off-road vehicles: many UK policies exclude quads and ATVs. The practical guide has the rest.

Which buggy for two to book

For an evening with dinner, the VIP buggy and camel safari with BBQ and stargazing is our pick: 4.5 from 528 reviews, the most reviewed buggy-only trip. Ask whether its price is per person or per buggy before you compare it.

For a lighter morning or a sunset ride with the best rating, the dune buggy safari with optional BBQ scores 4.9 from 129 reviews. Couples staying in Makadi Bay can take the 2-hour desert and coastline buggy, short on transfers; read our Makadi Bay guide. The direct alternative there is Makadi Excursions' per-buggy spider buggy, listed at https://www.makadi-excursions.com/. For a sunset version, see the sunset buggy guide.

In Sahl Hasheesh, the 5-hour ATV, buggy, horse and camel safari mixes four rides but is new, with only a handful of reviews; see the Sahl Hasheesh guide.

2 seater buggy Hurghada: common questions

How much is a 2 seater buggy in Hurghada?

On GetYourGuide buggy-only trips start at about $45 and run to about $95. Some sellers price per person, so two people pay twice; others price per buggy, such as TUI's morning dune buggy on musement.com from £42 per buggy for 2–4 people. Check the option text before comparing.

Can two people share one buggy in Hurghada?

Yes. Two seats side by side is the standard buggy: one person drives, the other is the passenger. Sellers also offer solo buggies and four-seat family buggies on some trips.

Can we swap drivers on a buggy for two?

The listings do not say. Ask the seller before you book and again at the briefing; both drivers must meet the age limit (16, or 18 on TUI's Travco trips).

Can a child sit in a double buggy in Hurghada?

Yes, beside an adult driver. TUI's Travco trips take one passenger aged 4 or older and no children under 4; other sellers set their own limits.

Is a buggy for two better than a double quad?

For most couples, yes: you sit side by side with belts instead of one person holding on behind the other. Where a double quad is offered it is priced differently from a single, and some sellers allow single riders only.
