A private quad tour in Hurghada is the same kind of ride as the shared one, with the crowd taken out. You are collected from your own hotel at a time you choose, you ride behind a guide who is there only for you, and you stop when you want photos. What usually does not change is the desert itself: private trips tend to leave from the same garage-style stations in Safari Land, the zone of numbered sectors on the Safaga road past the airport, and to stop at the same Bedouin-style camp 15–35 km further in.

Worth knowing before you pay more. If you want empty tracks, wilder scenery or mountains, "private" alone will not deliver them. If you want to avoid an hour of collecting other hotels, the back of a long convoy and a pace set by the most nervous rider, it does.

What a private quad tour in Hurghada includes

The clearest published example is the hotel-desk version. TUI sells a "Private premium quad safari" run by its local supplier, Travco Group for Tourism, and its itinerary shows exactly what private means in practice:

  • private pick-up from your hotel lobby, and private drop-off
  • a safety briefing and a short test drive at the quad station
  • 45 minutes of riding out, with photo stops
  • about 30 minutes at a Bedouin-style camp (tea, water, a soft drink)
  • 45 minutes riding back to the station

That is about 90 minutes on the quad inside a 4-hour trip. The rest is transfer, briefing and tea. The same trip includes goggles and a scarf (the scarf is yours to keep), accident insurance for the activity and a full refund up to 24 hours before. Under-16s are not allowed, and a helmet is not mentioned — ask for one.

Two details on that trip tell you how private is sold here. Solo travellers can only book the "Private Tour" option, and groups of 6–15 book a separate "Private Group" option.

Private vs shared quad: what you gain and what you don't

Pros

  • No hour-long minibus loop around other hotels before the ride
  • Your start time — useful for a real sunrise or a summer sunset slot
  • Pace set by you, not by the slowest rider in a big group
  • Fewer quads in front of you, so less dust in your face
  • A guide who can stop for photos or turn back early with a tired rider
  • Easier for couples where one rider is nervous

Cons

  • Usually the same station, tracks and camp as the shared tour
  • Costs more: private quad options start around $53, shared quads around $10
  • Riding time is not automatically longer — ask
  • Prices may be per person or per group, and the listing does not always say which
  • Cash extras (scarf, goggles, photos, a "safari fee") can still apply

The dust point is the one people underrate. Shared trips ride in convoy behind a guide, and whoever is at the back rides in everyone else's dust. With three or four quads in your own group, that problem mostly goes away. The pace point matters for mixed groups: in a convoy everyone rides at the speed of the slowest first-timer, while a private guide can let a confident rider open up and still look after a nervous one.

What you do not gain is a guarantee of more time on the quad. On a hotel-desk morning quad sold as a shared group trip, Travco also publishes 1 hour 30 minutes of riding in 3 hours, which is as much as its private version. Read the itinerary, not the label.

Private quad tour Hurghada: prices

Private quad and motocross options on GetYourGuide start at about $53 and run to about $168 for the El Gouna motocross and enduro ride. These are "from" prices: the cheapest option of each listing, per person unless the listing says otherwise.

Three things to check on the booking page before comparing:

  1. Per person or per group. Some sellers price a private quad per group — one marketplace for Russian-speaking travellers lists a 3-hour private quad at a flat price for a group of up to ten — while others charge per person (an agency, Egyptra, lists a private quad to a Bedouin village with a camel ride from €34 per person). A per-group price makes private cheap for a big family and dear for a couple.
  2. Which option the price belongs to. The ATV safari to a "sand mountain" is sold as shared or private. Its from-price is the cheapest option, which may well be the shared one — select the private option and look again. The listing does not say where the sand mountain is; ask the operator.
  3. What the operator adds on the day. Some sellers add a guide supplement rather than selling a private tour: Safari Sahara, for example, lists a private guide at +€30 on its "Power Tour" for experienced riders, on its own booking site.

Private quad bike in El Gouna: the Motoclub track and desert rides

El Gouna is the one place where private is the norm rather than an upgrade. Motoclub Egypt, on the south-west edge of the town, calls itself the first MX and ATV track in Egypt and sells "private rides only — solo, couples, or your own group". It has two tracks on a 90,000 m² site — an Easy Ride loop of 1.2 km (about a 3-minute lap) and an MX track of 1.8 km (about 4 minutes) — plus private quad and jeep rides into the desert. It is open from sunrise to sunset, publishes no prices and takes bookings by WhatsApp through its own site. The track hosted the 4th El Gouna International Motocross Championship on 2–3 April 2021.

On GetYourGuide, four El Gouna listings use the same wording as Motoclub's own pages:

These are premium products, not dear versions of the cheap quad. If you are staying in El Gouna and only want a cheap group quad, expect to be driven 40–60 minutes south to a Hurghada station instead. More on that in quad and buggy trips from El Gouna.

Private desert safari Hurghada: beyond the quad

Often the evening, not the ride, is what people want private. A few such products exist, and some "VIP" listings are not private at all.

A typical private morning quad, hour by hour

Typical private morning quad from Hurghada
  1. Private pick-up at your hotelFrom Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh or Soma Bay the time shifts with the transfer

  2. Arrive at the quad station in Safari Land20–45 min from Hurghada hotels

  3. Safety briefing, helmet, short test lapSay here if anyone is nervous

  4. Ride out behind your guideAbout 45 min, photo stops when you ask

  5. Bedouin-style campAbout 30 min: tea, water, a soft drink

  6. Ride back to the stationAbout 45 min

  7. Drive backHotel around 11:00

Times are an illustration built on the 45 + 30 + 45-minute pattern of the hotel-desk private trip; sellers confirm the exact pick-up the day before, usually by WhatsApp or e-mail. In May–September, ask for the earliest start: a private trip is the easiest way to get a real sunrise slot, and the morning quad guide explains how early that is.

Who should book private, and who shouldn't

Worth it:

  • Couples or friends of very different confidence. One wants speed, the other wants to stop; a private guide can manage both.
  • Groups of four or more. If the price is per group, it can come close to the shared price per head.
  • Guests in El Gouna, Soma Bay or Safaga. Shared minibuses take up to an hour each way from these resorts while collecting other hotels; a private car cuts that loop.
  • Solo travellers on hotel-desk trips, where the private option is the only one open to them.
  • Photographers, who need stops on their own schedule and the light at the start or end of the day.

Not worth it:

  • If you simply want more riding for the money — a longer shared trip with published riding minutes can give you that for less.
  • If the camp evening is the point. Private dinners exist, but the big show camps are group events by design; for a quieter evening, BADU's Bedouin dinner is a shared trip that feels nothing like the big shows.
  • With children under 16 who want to drive. Private does not change the age rule; see quad trips with kids.

Booking a private quad: what to ask before you pay

Booking a private quad ride without surprises

  1. Ask how many minutes you spend on the quad, not how many hours the trip lasts.
  2. Ask whether the price is per person, per quad or per group, and for how many people.
  3. Ask whether pick-up from your resort is included or costs extra.
  4. Ask whether a helmet, scarf and goggles are included, or sold at the station.
  5. Ask whether any cash "safari fee" is due on the day.
  6. Check the cancellation terms on the listing and the operator's name on the booking page.
  7. Check your travel insurance covers quad biking — many UK policies exclude it unless you add cover.

On insurance: platform bookings include none, while TUI's Travco trips state that accident insurance for the activity is included. Some UK policies exclude quads outright, others need an adventure add-on — InsureandGo's activity page is a typical example of the wording to look for. Not wearing a helmet can also invalidate a claim.

Private quad tour Hurghada: questions

How much is a private quad tour in Hurghada?

Private and shared-or-private options on GetYourGuide start at about $53 and go up to about $168 for premium El Gouna rides. Check whether the price is per person or per group; a per-group price changes the maths for families and groups of friends.

Is a private quad bike tour in Hurghada longer than a shared one?

Not necessarily. A 4-hour private trip sold through TUI gives about 90 minutes of riding — but so does a 3-hour shared morning quad from the same supplier. Ask for riding minutes.

Does a private desert safari in Hurghada go to a different place?

Usually not. Private trips mostly use the same stations in Safari Land and the same Bedouin-style camps as shared trips. Only the long jeep trips reach the Red Sea Mountains.

Can I book a private buggy in Hurghada?

Yes. Some local agencies sell private buggy rides, and TUI prices its morning buggy trip per buggy for a group of two to four. A buggy suits a couple or a parent and child, as one drives and one rides — check whether a listing's price is per person or per buggy.

Do I need a driving licence for a private quad?

No licence is asked on the trips we checked; operators set a minimum age of 16 and give a short test drive. The El Gouna Dry Canyon morning quad is an exception and asks for a licence.

Can children join a private quad tour?

Under-16s cannot drive a quad on any product that states an age, private or not. Some sellers seat a child behind a parent, others allow single riders only; a buggy with a child passenger is often the better choice.
