Desert Fox Safari Hurghada: which company it is and whether to book

Desert Fox Safari in Hurghada is a GetYourGuide seller account for Makadi Bay and Marsa Alam with some of the cheapest, most-booked quad trips on the coast — and a name it shares with a Giza safari company we found no link to.

Verdict in one line: Desert Fox Safari's Makadi Bay listings are a cheap, ordinary group quad that works if you keep your expectations to a short convoy ride and a camp stop — but check the operator name on the page, because two different businesses trade as "Desert Fox Safari".

Which Desert Fox Safari is this?

Two businesses use the name, and online reviews and search results mix them up.

1. Desert Fox Safari in Giza. The company with the websites desertfoxsafari.com and desertfox-safari.com is based in the Pyramids area of Giza. It runs desert trips in Giza, Siwa, Fayoum, Bahariya, Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh, has a 13-room boutique hotel by the Pyramids, and lists sister pages in Dubai, Morocco, Oman and Jordan. Its Tripadvisor page is filed under Giza. On its own site it offered just two Hurghada trips with no reviews when we checked: an ATV quad ride at $35 and a super safari at $45.

2. "Desert Fox Safari – Makadi Bay and Marsa Alam". This is the name GetYourGuide shows as the activity provider on three big Hurghada-area quad listings. It is the seller most people mean when they read "Desert Fox Safari Hurghada reviews". It has no published price list of its own.

We found nothing that shows whether the two are related. So do not use the Giza company's prices, hotel, oasis trips or group pages to judge the Makadi seller, or the other way round. The Giza company's $35 quad is not the price of the Makadi listings.

Who runs the Makadi Bay listings

The Makadi seller has a booking website on a shared platform used by many Hurghada safari names. The domain is little more than a year old. That site claims a founding year, a near-perfect rating, small groups and a large fleet; none of that is backed by anything independent, and its rating does not match the 4.2–4.3 averages on GetYourGuide. Treat it as a shop window, not as evidence.

What it does publish is useful: a Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities licence for a "mountain safari bikes" centre named Desert Fox, located at Km 34 south of El Quseir — on the coast road towards Marsa Alam, not in Makadi. The page shows the licence as valid to the end of 2025 and says renewal evidence is not yet published; it points to the Ministry hotline, 19654, for checks.

Where the Makadi-titled trips actually start is not published. Makadi-titled trips may start from a station on the Makadi side or from the Safari Land stations past the airport — the pick-up time tells you which.

The booking site sits on the same web platform as several other Hurghada safari names, and its domain was registered in the same second as another operator's. We found no proof of common ownership, and it does not tell you who runs a given trip. The name GetYourGuide shows on the listing does: that is your contract partner.

What Desert Fox Safari sells on GetYourGuide

GetYourGuide names Desert Fox Safari – Makadi Bay and Marsa Alam as the provider on three listings:

Eight more listings use the same option menu (sunrise with breakfast, daytime, or sunset with dinner and stargazing; camel ride; transfers; add-ons), including the big quad tour of the desert and Red Sea (4.3 from nearly 3,500 reviews). These are listings with the same option menu as Desert Fox's named ones, but the listing summary does not name their operator. GetYourGuide shows the operator's name on the listing page, so check it.

Two things to know about this option menu. The "from" price is the bare daytime ride; dinner, show, stargazing and some pick-ups cost more inside the listing. And "stargazing" here means looking up after dinner — no telescope is promised. For a telescope evening, see sunset and stargazing trips.

Prices: about $10–17 online, no direct price list

Online prices on the Desert Fox listings started from about $10–17 per person when we checked. That puts them at the bottom of the Hurghada quad market, where the typical quad costs about $20.

There is no direct price list for the Makadi seller, so you cannot compare a "walk-in" price. On the day, budget a little cash: some listings add a "safari fee" of about €5–10 per person (look under "Not included"), scarves and goggles are often sold at the station for around €5 each, photos are optional, and a modest tip for the guide is usual. Prices usually cover Hurghada hotels; from Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna, Soma Bay or Safaga many sellers add €5–15 per person, so check the pick-up area in the option you choose. More in quad prices in Hurghada.

Desert Fox Safari Hurghada reviews: what the ratings show

The three named listings average 4.2–4.3 stars on more than 3,000 reviews, and the same-menu listings sit between 4.1 and 4.4. That is the normal band for the cheapest option-menu quads in Hurghada. Listings with a fixed, narrower programme at $23–53 rate 4.7–4.9 — a pattern we see across the market, though it does not prove why.

We have no reliable summary of complaints to pass on, and the storefront's own rating is not a guide. Reviews on GetYourGuide come only from people who booked, so they are the best source. Before you book, read the newest ones on the listing for:

  • how many minutes people spent on the quad;
  • whether the pick-up from your resort was included or charged in cash;
  • what the camp stop was like, and how long the camel ride lasted;
  • whether helmets were handed out.

Ask how many minutes you spend on the quad, not how many hours the trip lasts. Comparable cheap trips give 40–60 minutes of riding.

How to book Desert Fox Safari

Booking a Desert Fox quad without surprises

  1. Open the listing and check the provider name on the page — it should read Desert Fox Safari – Makadi Bay and Marsa Alam.
  2. Pick the option (sunrise, daytime or sunset) and check what it adds: dinner, show, pick-up area.
  3. Read "Not included" for a cash safari fee and the pick-up supplement from your resort.
  4. Book through GetYourGuide; your contract is with the local operator named on the listing, and the default rule is a full refund up to 24 hours before.
  5. Ask the operator for its Ministry of Tourism licence and its expiry date when the pick-up is confirmed.
  6. On the day: long trousers, closed shoes, your own buff and sunglasses, small cash, and ask for a helmet.

Quad drivers must be at least 16 on every Hurghada listing that states an age, and no driving licence is asked; expect a short test drive instead. Check your travel insurance for a quad-biking exclusion before you go — many UK policies exclude it. The UK government advises you always wear a crash helmet (FCDO).

Alternatives to Desert Fox Safari

If you are staying in Makadi Bay and want a cheap quad with a better rating, look at Makadi Excursions, whose 2-hour Makadi quad route matches a listing rated 4.7. Quad Tour Safari is another GetYourGuide seller on the southern side of Hurghada, with one big GoPro listing. For more time on the vehicles and a published programme, Scorpion Safari states its minutes on its own site.

FAQ

Is Desert Fox Safari Hurghada the same company as Desert Fox Safari in Giza?

Not as far as we can show. The Giza company runs a hotel and trips around the Pyramids and the Western Desert oases; the Hurghada listings come from a seller account called "Desert Fox Safari – Makadi Bay and Marsa Alam". We found no evidence linking them.

How much does a Desert Fox Safari quad cost?

On GetYourGuide its listings start from about $10–17 per person for the basic option. Dinner, show and some pick-ups cost more, and you may pay a cash safari fee or pick-up supplement on the day.

What do Desert Fox Safari Hurghada reviews say?

Its named listings rate 4.2–4.3 on thousands of reviews — average for Hurghada's cheapest quads, below the 4.7–4.9 of the better fixed-programme trips. Read the newest reviews on the listing for riding time and extras.

Is Desert Fox Safari licensed?

Its booking site shows a Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities licence for a facility south of El Quseir whose validity date has passed, and says renewal evidence is not yet published. Ask the operator for the current licence and its expiry date.

Is Desert Fox Safari still operating?

Its GetYourGuide listings were open for booking when we checked. Check that the provider name on the listing page matches before you pay.
