Cookie policy

This site sets no cookies of its own. The only thing that may set cookies is GetYourGuide's booking calendar, and you decide whether it loads automatically or only when you click.

This page explains which cookies and similar technologies can be involved when you read hurghadaquad.tours, an independent guide to desert trips from Hurghada, and how to control them. For everything else about personal data, see the privacy policy.

Cookies we set

None. We do not use analytics, advertising, social media or session cookies, and there is no login. Our server does not send any cookie to your browser.

What we store in your browser

We store a single setting, and only after you make a choice:

Local storage is not a cookie: it is never sent with requests to our server or to anyone else, and we cannot read it from outside your browser. It stays until you change the setting or clear your browser's site data. If your browser blocks local storage (for example in some private windows), the site still works, but your choice cannot be saved: on the next page the calendars load automatically again unless you choose "Only on click" once more.

The GetYourGuide booking calendar

Many pages include a live availability calendar for a tour from GetYourGuide, our main booking partner. This is the only third-party code on the site. When the calendar loads, your browser fetches a script from GetYourGuide's servers. GetYourGuide then receives your IP address and technical browser data, and may set its own cookies. Which cookies these are, how long they last and what they are used for is decided by GetYourGuide and explained in its own cookie and privacy policies. We have no access to them.

Your choice

The calendar settings panel offers two options:

  • Load automatically (the default): each calendar loads when you scroll close to it.
  • Only on click: nothing loads from GetYourGuide. Each calendar shows a button instead; pressing it loads the calendars on that page.

To change your choice at any time, use Calendar settings in the footer of any page. Choosing "Only on click" stops future automatic loading. It does not delete cookies GetYourGuide may already have set; you can remove those in your browser's settings.

If you never want third-party cookies, you can also block them in your browser. The calendar may then not work, but every guide on this site can still be read in full, and the booking links still work.

Our booking links lead straight to GetYourGuide or Headout and carry our partner identifier, so that the platform can credit a booking to us. Clicking a link does not set a cookie on our site. Once you are on the partner's site, its own cookie banner and policies apply, including any cookies it uses to record that you came from us. The price you pay is the same as when you visit the partner directly.

Other things that load

  • Fonts are served from our own server. No font service is contacted.
  • Maps are drawn from OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL) and Natural Earth (public domain) and are part of the page itself, so no map provider is contacted. The "directions" links beside a map open Google Maps, and only if you click them.
  • Images are served from our own server.
