Hurghada excursions companies: local agencies reviewed

Local agencies in Hurghada let you pay cash later and arrange private trips by WhatsApp — but they are not cheaper than the platforms for the same ride, and their refund rules differ a lot.

A Hurghada excursions company is usually a reseller: it does not own the quads, it books you onto someone else's station and camp in the desert behind the coast. Hotel desks and platforms work the same way, but it means the agency's name tells you little about the trip, and the price, refund rule and payment method are what you are really choosing.

Our verdict: local agencies are worth it for cash-later payment and private options, not for price, and you should read the refund rule before you send anything by WhatsApp.

Who the Hurghada agencies are

Hurghada Excursions (hurghada-excursions.com) names its company on its About page as GTT Travel & Tourism and gives an office address in the Al Kawathar district of Hurghada. Be careful with the name: other sites use "Hurghada Excursions" too, including a different, low-trust .net site that gives a Miami address. Its desert list, on its own site in USD: a 3-hour quad tour from $23 (departing 14:00; the camp stop it names is "Safari Sahara Hurghada" — see our Safari Sahara review), a 6-hour "Mega Safari" with jeep, quad, camel and BBQ from $37 (departing 11:00), a jeep stargazing trip from $35 and a 3-hour horse ride from $32. Pick-ups from Makadi Bay, Soma Bay or El Gouna cost €10 per person extra; full refund up to 24 hours before.

Hurghada Lovers (hurghadalovers.com) calls itself a Hurghada travel agency and publishes no legal name or licence. In archived versions of its price list, a 2-hour quad from Hurghada was €20 with 60 minutes of riding, €25 from Makadi or Sahl Hasheesh, a 3-hour El Gouna morning quad €40, and children aged 5–12 half price. Payment is "reserve now, pay later" in cash to the guide. To book, it asks for your hotel, room number and passport photos by WhatsApp, and adds €10 per person for outlying pick-ups. It is open about the extras: a photographer shoots the trip and offers the photos afterwards (you may decline), drinks at the station's show cost extra, and the guide sells scarves and rents goggles.

Egypt Excursions Online (egypt-excursionsonline.com) is a reseller whose terms name Excursions Online LLC FZ. On its own site in USD: a guided quad and camel ride from $19 (2 hours of quad, or 1 hour of quad plus 1 hour of horse; a 05:00 sunrise option), a 7-hour super safari from $23 with "1 hour" of quad, and a VIP buggy from $81. Its titles mirror GetYourGuide's — the super safari has the same title and price as the GetYourGuide super safari with ATV, camel and BBQ — but we cannot prove the same operator runs both. Its refund rule is strict: 100 % back seven days or more before, 50 % between three and seven days, nothing inside three days.

Excursies Egypte (excursiesegypte.nl) sells to Dutch-speaking guests through a booking marketplace: an El Gouna morning quad from €33, an afternoon version from €40, and a 6-hour Sahl Hasheesh "Fun Safari" from €30 with 30 minutes on the quad and 15 in a buggy. You can pay during the trip or by card online; free cancellation up to 24 hours.

Egyptra Travel (egyptra.pro) describes itself as a licensed Egyptian tour operator since 2010 but publishes no address. It sells German-language desert safaris from €35 to €75 and El Gouna trips from €21.50 to €39.

Russian-speaking guests also book through Russian-language marketplaces such as Sputnik8 and Tripster, which list Hurghada quad safaris with Russian-speaking guides.

Hurghada excursions prices: agency vs platform

Side by side, in the currency each seller uses (never converted):

Trip Local agency GetYourGuide
2-hour quad €20 from Hurghada, €25 from Makadi (Hurghada Lovers, archived) Makadi Bay ATV tour from $17
Quad and camel, 2 h of quad $19 (Egypt Excursions Online) quad and camel listings from about $14–16
7-hour super safari $23 (Egypt Excursions Online) the same-titled listing, from $23
Mega safari with jeep, quad, camel, BBQ $37 (Hurghada Excursions) comparable listings from about $22.50–37
Jeep stargazing $35 (Hurghada Excursions) comparable listings from about $28

The pattern is clear: agencies are not the budget option. And at every seller the same cash extras apply at the station — scarves and goggles, photos, drinks, and on some listings a "safari fee" of about €5–10 per person.

Both of these platform listings are option menus, so the from-price may not include the dinner; the Headout one has only a handful of reviews. Check the option before comparing.

What travellers should check

We found no review themes for these agencies that we could verify, so here is what to check yourself before booking:

  • The refund rule in writing. Most agencies refund fully up to 24 hours before; Egypt Excursions Online refunds nothing inside three days.
  • What you send by WhatsApp. A hotel and room number for pick-up is normal; think twice about sending passport photos to a seller with no published legal name.
  • The riding minutes. Hurghada Lovers publishes 60 minutes in a 2-hour trip; most agencies do not say.
  • Which station and camp. An agency's quad tour may use another company's camp — Hurghada Excursions names "Safari Sahara Hurghada".
  • The licence. None of these agencies publishes a licence number, and no public register exists. In a dated precedent, Egypt's tourism authority revoked a company's licence after a Hurghada-area trip crash in 2010, for failing to notify the ministry of the itinerary and passengers (Egypt Independent). Ask for the Ministry of Tourism licence and a written receipt.

The UK government advises booking excursions at your resort or through approved agents or tour operators (FCDO safety advice).

How to book a local agency

Booking a Hurghada agency trip safely

  1. Ask for the full price including pick-up from your resort and any cash fee.
  2. Ask how many minutes you ride and which station you start from.
  3. Get the refund rule in writing before you confirm.
  4. Send only what pick-up needs — hotel name and room — unless you trust the seller.
  5. Pay cash to the guide only at the start of the trip, and ask for a receipt.

Alternatives

If you want the same desert with a written cancellation rule and reviews from people who booked, compare the GetYourGuide super safari or the well-reviewed desert experience with quad, buggy and camel. For insurance and a 24-hour refund through your tour operator, see hotel excursion desks.

FAQ

Which is the best Hurghada excursions company for desert trips?

No agency is clearly better on price. Choose by payment method, refund rule and whether it states the riding time. For a written cancellation rule and booker reviews, a platform listing is the safer choice.

Are Hurghada excursions prices cheaper at local agencies?

Not for the same trip. A 2-hour quad was €20–25 at one agency, while a comparable GetYourGuide listing starts from about $17; one agency's 7-hour super safari costs the same as the same-titled listing on GetYourGuide.

Is it safe to pay a Hurghada tour company in cash?

Many agencies take cash to the guide on the day. Pay at the start of the trip, ask for a receipt, and remember that cash bookings carry no platform refund.

Do local agencies include pick-up from Makadi or El Gouna?

Usually not. Hurghada Excursions and Hurghada Lovers add €10 per person from the outer resorts; Egypt Excursions Online excludes those transfers on its super safari.

Can I cancel an agency excursion in Hurghada?

Most allow free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Egypt Excursions Online is stricter: 50 % back between three and seven days before, nothing inside three days.
