The quad Hurghada price is really two numbers: the price on the listing and what you hand over in cash on the day. Online, a shared quad trip from a Hurghada hotel starts at about $10 per person and most people book one between $13 and $30. Buggies cost far more, jeep trips range from a cheap shuttle to a full-day mountain expedition, and the big "super safari" combos sit in between.

What the listing price rarely tells you is how long you are on the quad. A "3-hour" or "5-hour" trip is door to door: minibus, briefing, a camp stop, a camel ride, sometimes dinner. Riding is usually 40–60 minutes.

Per-person prices in US dollars from listings with at least 10 reviews, checked on 20 October 2026. Bar: cheapest to typical price.

Our count of 114 GetYourGuide desert listings for Hurghada and the resorts around it, per person in US dollars:

Type of trip Listings Cheapest Median Dearest
Quad / ATV (incl. quad + camel, quad + dinner) 40 $9.98 $20.00 $134.54
Buggy only 5 $44.85 $78.48 $178.27
Jeep / 4x4 only 9 $21.25 $58.50 $168.18
Super / mega combo 15 $21.66 $34.92 $52.25
Stargazing-led trip 12 $19.16 $36.56 $201.82
Camel ride 7 $16.82 $32.80 $56.06
Horse ride 22 $9.58 $19.16 $84.09

Two things stand out. First, quads are most of the market: they carry 56 % of all desert reviews, and half of those reviews sit on listings priced at $16.82 or less. That is roughly what most visitors pay. Second, the top end of each row is not a better version of the same trip. The $134.54 quad is a private motocross-and-ATV session in El Gouna, the $178.27 buggy is a new listing without a single review, and the $168.18 jeep trip is a long run to a desert spring site with three reviews.

One pattern is worth knowing: the cheapest quads ($10–17) are option-menu listings rated 4.1–4.4, while listings with a fixed, narrower programme at $23–53 rate 4.7–4.9. We cannot prove why. See the best-rated quad trips.

What the "from" price covers on a Hurghada quad

The price you see first is the cheapest option of the listing, per person. On the big option-menu listings that is usually the daytime ride from a Hurghada hotel, without dinner, stargazing or a pick-up from Makadi Bay. Choose the sunset slot with dinner and show, and the price changes.

A clear example: the sunset quad with optional stargazing and BBQ starts at $12.48, while a quad safari with dinner and stargazing built in starts at $39.24. Both end under the stars; only one includes the meal in the price you saw.

What a group quad normally includes:

  • hotel pick-up and drop-off from Hurghada hotels
  • a guide, a short briefing and the quad itself
  • a stop at a Bedouin-style camp with tea and a short camel ride
  • water; dinner, a show and stargazing only in the evening options

The riding time is not published on the cheap option-menu listings; comparable trips that publish it give 40–60 minutes on the quad. One local agency's 2-hour trip, at €20 in archived versions of its price list, gave 60 minutes of riding. Scorpion Safari's own $35 Discovery tour (on its own site) is a 3-hour trip with 30 minutes on a quad and 15 in a buggy.

Single or double quad matters too. Some sellers offer a double quad, with a passenger behind the driver, at a different price; others, including the trips TUI sells, allow single riders only. If two of you want to share, pick a listing that names a double quad. Drivers must be at least 16; the trips we checked ask for no driving licence, only a short test drive.

Where the money goes on a typical afternoon quad
  1. Minibus pick-up at a Hurghada hotelIncluded. From Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna, Soma Bay or Safaga many sellers add €5–15 per person, often in cash.

  2. Safari station in Safari Land, on the Safaga road past the airportScarf and goggles on sale for around €5 each. Any cash "safari fee" in the listing's "Not included" is paid on the day.

  3. Briefing and test lap (ask for a helmet), then the convoy rides outThis is the part you paid for: usually 40–60 minutes of riding in all.

  4. Stop at a desert camp 15–35 km outTea and a short camel ride are usually included; the herb and souvenir pitch and extra drinks are not.

  5. Ride back to the stationA photographer may offer photos or video. Optional.

  6. Back at the hotelA modest tip in small notes for guide and driver; nothing is compulsory.

Cash extras: safari fee, pick-up, scarf and goggles

The listing price is paid online. The extras are paid in cash, mostly quoted in euros, though Egyptian pounds, dollars and pounds sterling are usually accepted. Bring small notes.

Extra What it costs What to do
"Safari fee" €5–10 per person on some listings (Headout listings show €7 or €10) Look under "Not included" before you book. Others include it.
Pick-up from outer resorts €5–15 per person from Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna, Soma Bay or Safaga Check the listing's pick-up area. Hurghada hotels are usually covered.
Scarf (shemagh) and goggles around €5 each at the station Bring your own buff and sunglasses.
Photos, video, GoPro varies widely by seller Optional. Ask the price before the ride starts.
Herbs, souvenirs, drinks your choice The camp stop usually includes a sales pitch; nothing is compulsory.
Tips your choice Small cash for guide and driver.

Some listings call the "safari fee" governmental, others a "Safari Land fee". We found no official Egyptian source for it, and Safari Land, the strip of quad stations on the Safaga road, is not a national park. Some sellers include "all taxes and entrance fees", others add €5–10 in cash. Compare totals.

The pick-up supplement depends on the seller, not the hotel: TUI's supplier charges €8 per adult from El Gouna and €10 from Safaga and Soma Bay; many local agencies a flat €10. Because the stations lie south of the city, Sahl Hasheesh and Makadi Bay guests are often collected later than guests in northern Hurghada, while El Gouna, Soma Bay and Safaga guests face up to an hour each way. Our resorts guide has the drive times.

Cash extras matter most on the cheapest listing. Headout's quad, camel and Bedouin village trip starts at $5.50 plus about €10 in cash on the day:

Quad. The cheapest way into the desert: from about $10, typically $13–30, for 40–60 minutes in a convoy at the guide's pace, with dust at the back. How the quad tours run.

Buggy. Reviewed buggy-only trips cost $44.85–94.79, and a buggy-only trip gives about 60–90 minutes at the wheel. The catch is the unit: on musement.com, TUI's activity platform, the morning buggy is priced per buggy for two to four people. Check whether a price is per person or per buggy before you compare. The buggy guide covers driver ages (16 or 18 by seller).

Jeep. You are driven, and the price splits in two. The $21–37 "jeep safaris" are mostly a 4x4 shuttle of about 25 km each way to a dinner camp. The $84–168 jeep trips go somewhere real: a canyon with caves, the Red Sea Mountains, a desert spring site. A canyon jeep tour with dinner and stars starts at $84.09 and a Qattar mountain trip at $134.54, for 7–10 hours. The jeep guide explains the destinations.

Super or mega safari. $21.66–52.25 for 5–7 hours with a quad, often a buggy or jeep, a camp, camel, dinner and show. The time at the controls is short: usually 30–45 minutes on the quad and 15–30 minutes in a buggy. The most-reviewed combo, a listing with the same programme as Scorpion's Discovery tour, starts at $44.85 (GetYourGuide shows the operator's name on the listing page); a 7-hour super safari with quad and buggy starts at $23. Worth it for the whole evening in one booking; poor value if you want riding. See the super safari guide.

Desert safari Hurghada price with dinner, show and stars

Evening packages are where the price climbs. A quad with camel, dinner and show starts at about $12–16 on option-menu listings, but read which option the from-price covers: the quad, camel, show, dinner and stargazing trip starts at $15.33, and the dinner may be in a dearer option.

A fixed evening programme says so up front. The quad and buggy desert safari with dinner show, a listing with the same programme as Scorpion's afternoon Discovery tour, starts at $37.45. On its own site Scorpion lists that afternoon tour at $36 per adult. The evening — camp, buffet, belly dance and tanoura (the Egyptian whirling-skirt dance) — is described in the desert safari guide.

Stargazing-led trips start at $19.16, with a median of $36.56. Look for the word "telescope" in the listing: if it is not there, stargazing means looking up after dinner. The jeep star-watching trip with dinner, a listing with the same name and telescope wording as the Hurghada stargazing company Space Observers, starts at $27.94 (check the provider name on the page); Space Observers lists its own version from $30. More in the stargazing guide.

The quiet alternative is BADU Camp in the Makadi Bay desert: no belly dance, no fire show, no alcohol. Its Bedouin dinner and stargazing starts at $51 on GetYourGuide, against €45 on BADU's own site. See our BADU Camp review.

Hotel desk, agency or online: the same desert at different prices

The same stations and camps are sold through four channels. Prices are in each seller's own currency; compare what each includes, not just the number.

Channel Example prices What you get Watch out for
GetYourGuide quad from $9.98, median $20; combos $21.66–52.25 Full refund up to 24 h before on most listings; "reserve now, pay later" on some; reviews only from bookers No insurance; cash extras at the station
Headout quad trips $5.50–19.50, combos $15–20 Free cancellation to 24 h on most New listings with 0–8 reviews; €7–10 cash fee on several; some non-refundable
TUI on musement.com (supplier Travco) quad + Bedouin tea 4 h from £31; buggy morning £42 per buggy; morning quad + buggy + 4x4 + camel £50; 8-h combo with dinner and show £59; sunset stargazing by 4x4 £67 Accident insurance during the activity; 100 % refund up to 24 h; card payment; clear age rules Outer-resort pick-up €8–14 paid on site; scarf and goggles ~€5 each
Local agencies Hurghada Excursions quad 3 h $23, mega safari $37; Egypt Excursions Online ATV + camel $19, 7-h super safari $23 Cash on the day with some; private options Passport photos by WhatsApp with some; one gives no refund within 3 days

Hotel desks are the dearest of the four for a simple quad: TUI's quad on musement.com starts at £31, against $10–17 for the big online group quads. For a long combo the gap is smaller: TUI's 8-hour combo with dinner and show is £59, comparable GetYourGuide combos start at $26–45. The desk price buys accident insurance and clear age rules; the UK government advises booking "through approved agents or tour operators" (FCDO). Lobby desks set their own prices, so ask for the written price including pick-up and fees. Itaka lists a 5-hour quad safari from about 155 PLN. See our hotel desk review.

Local agencies are not cheaper than the platforms for the same trip. Their plus is paying cash later; their minus is the refund rule: Egypt Excursions Online refunds nothing under three days. It resells the 7-hour super safari under the same title at the same $23. See our local agencies review.

Booking direct with an operator is sometimes cheaper, sometimes not:

GetYourGuide's own terms say its price includes the commission the operator pays it and may be higher than the operator charges through other channels. Against that you get a written cancellation window, a refund if the operator cancels for weather, and pay-later on some listings. More in the platforms comparison.

Why two Hurghada quads at the same price are not the same trip

Five things decide whether a quad trip is good value.

  1. Riding minutes. The biggest difference, the least published. A few listings state it: the 40 km desert quad with Bedouin village and the sunrise quad with a "2-hour quad" ride say how far or how long you ride. Where nothing is stated, assume 40–60 minutes and ask.
  2. Pick-up zone. A $12 trip plus a €10 Makadi pick-up in cash can cost as much as a $20 trip that includes it — add them up. The 2-hour Makadi Bay ATV tour suits Makadi and Sahl Hasheesh guests.
  3. What is in the from-price. On option-menu listings the $12–16 from-price is usually the bare ride; dinner, show and stars sit in dearer options. A trip with dinner and stargazing built in starts at $39.24.
  4. Group format. A long convoy is a different experience from a small group or a private ride. A sand-mountain ATV trip that can be booked shared or private starts at $52.58.
  5. Promotions. Headout shows struck-through "−25 %" and "−50 %" prices, and prices move daily. Book the trip, not the discount.

Our opinion after comparing them: the cheapest $10–17 quad is fine if you want one hour of desert at the lowest price and do not mind a big group. If you are travelling as a couple with a nervous passenger, a buggy at $45–80 is better value than two quads. If you want to ride more, pay for published riding time, not for a longer trip.

Children and private trips: how prices change

Under-16s cannot drive a quad, so a family's price depends on the vehicle: usually a buggy driven by an adult, child beside them (from age 4 on TUI's trips). Child prices vary:

  • Scorpion Safari (direct): under 5 free, 5–10 half price, over 10 full price.
  • Makadi Excursions (direct): €15 for adults and children on its Makadi quad; children ride with an adult.
  • TUI's pick-up supplements are halved for children (El Gouna €4, Safaga and Soma Bay €5).

The kids guide covers age rules by vehicle.

Going private changes the price most: a private El Gouna quad and ATV session starts at $84.09. You get your own transfer, guide and start time, but usually the same station and camp as the groups.

How to check the full price before you book

Booking a quad ride without surprises

  1. Open the listing's options and pick the one you want (sunrise, daytime or sunset; with or without dinner). Note that option's price, not the headline.
  2. Read "Not included": safari fee, pick-up from your resort, scarf, goggles, photos.
  3. Check whether the price is per person or per buggy, and whether a double quad is offered.
  4. Look for the riding time. If it is not stated, message the operator and ask how many minutes on the quad.
  5. Check the cancellation rule and whether you can reserve now and pay later.
  6. Note the operator's name on the listing page — that company is your contract partner.
  7. Carry small notes for the extras above and a tip.

GetYourGuide is the booking agent; your contract is with the local operator named on the listing. Our GetYourGuide guide explains how to read a listing, and the practical guide covers insurance — many UK policies exclude quad biking unless you add cover.

Hurghada quad price: questions people ask

How much is a quad bike in Hurghada?

A shared group quad trip from a Hurghada hotel costs from about $10 per person online, and most listings sit between $13 and $30. That usually buys 40–60 minutes of riding, a camp stop and a short camel ride. Budget €5–15 in cash if you stay outside Hurghada or the listing adds a safari fee.

How much is a desert safari in Hurghada per person?

A quad trip with camp stop, dinner and show starts at about $12–16 on option-menu listings and $37–40 on fixed programmes. A full "super safari" with quad, buggy or jeep, camel, dinner and show costs $21.66–52.25 per person online.

How much is a buggy in Hurghada?

Buggy-only trips cost $44.85–94.79 on reviewed listings, for about 60–90 minutes at the wheel. Check whether the price is per person or per buggy.

Is the safari fee included in the price?

It depends on the listing. Some add a cash "safari fee" of about €5–10 per person on the day; others include all fees. Look under "Not included" and compare totals.

Is it cheaper to book a quad at the hotel or online?

For a simple quad, online is cheaper: the big group quads start at $10–17, while TUI's quad on musement.com starts at £31. The desk price includes accident insurance, which online listings do not.

Do I pay in dollars or euros?

Platform prices on this site are in US dollars and paid online. Cash extras at the station are mostly quoted in euros, but Egyptian pounds, dollars and pounds sterling are usually accepted. Bring small notes.

Is Hurghada cheap for desert trips?

For desert trips, yes: a half-day quad with hotel transfers starts at about $10 online, and half of all quad reviews sit on listings at $16.82 or less. The low price comes with short riding, big convoys and cash extras.
