GetYourGuide in Hurghada: how quad and safari bookings work, plus the top 10

GetYourGuide is the biggest shop window for Hurghada desert trips — over 100 quad, buggy, jeep and safari listings, the most-reviewed with 3,798 reviews. It is a booking agent: your contract is with the local operator named on the listing, so read that name, the riding time and the "Not included" list before you pay.

Open GetYourGuide on your phone at the pool and you are in the largest online market for desert trips on the Red Sea coast. At our last count there were 114 desert listings around Hurghada, Makadi Bay and El Gouna, with more than 53,000 reviews between them; quads alone carry over half of those reviews. This page explains how a GetYourGuide Hurghada quad booking actually works, how to read a listing so the price and the riding time hold no surprises, and which ten quad and safari listings have the strongest record.

We are not affiliated with GetYourGuide. We earn a commission when you book through our links, at no extra cost to you, and we rank listings by their reviews, not by what the platform pays.

Get your guide Hurghada: what the platform is, and what it is not

GetYourGuide was founded in Zurich in 2009 and is run by GetYourGuide Deutschland GmbH in Berlin. It does not own quads, camps or minibuses. In its own words it acts as a commercial agent for the suppliers: the contract for the activity is concluded directly between you and the supplier, and GetYourGuide collects the payment on the supplier's behalf.

Three consequences matter for a desert trip:

  • The name on the listing is your operator. It is the company whose guides, quads and camp you will meet. Look for it on the listing page and compare it with our operator reviews.
  • GetYourGuide does not run the trip or check its safety. Its terms say it does not operate tours, employ guides or set or verify safety standards. Its supplier safety standard asks for insured vehicles with maintenance records, and helmets and seat belts in good condition, but the platform does not inspect them.
  • No insurance is included. If something goes wrong on the quad, your travel insurance is what pays — and many policies exclude quads.

The price you see already includes the commission the supplier pays the platform. The platform also warns that its prices may be higher than what suppliers charge on other platforms or through other sales channels. That is not a reason to avoid it, only a reason to compare.

Egypt is a "restricted onboarding" country for new GetYourGuide suppliers, because of elevated business risks, and new partners must be direct operators rather than resellers. New Hurghada suppliers are harder to add, so the big established listings dominate.

How booking a GetYourGuide Hurghada quad works

Booking a GetYourGuide quad from Hurghada, step by step

  1. Pick the listing, then the option: sunrise, daytime, sunset, with or without dinner, shared or private. The headline price is the cheapest option.
  2. Choose the date and the number of riders, and enter your hotel. Check that your resort is in the pick-up area before you pay.
  3. Pay now, or reserve now and pay later where the listing offers it.
  4. You receive a voucher that carries the supplier's emergency contact.
  5. The operator confirms the pick-up time, usually the day before by WhatsApp or email. Reply, and give your room number if asked.
  6. On the day, be in the lobby on time. You sign a waiver at the station, get a briefing and a short test lap, then ride.
What happens between booking and riding (typical)
  1. You pay, or reserve with a card for pay laterThe voucher names the supplier and its emergency contact

  2. Pay-later bookings: the card is chargedIf the charge fails you have 47 hours to pay manually, or the booking is cancelled

  3. Last moment for a free cancellation under the default ruleEgyptian time counts, and the time the platform receives your cancellation

  4. Pick-up time confirmed by WhatsApp or emailOuter resorts are collected earlier

  5. Pick-up, station, briefing, ride, camp, returnPay cash extras such as scarf, goggles or a safari fee if the listing lists them

The meeting point is the one on the listing or the one the supplier gives you. The supplier may move it, but only to a place within 15 minutes of the original and with at least 24 hours' notice. If you are not at the pick-up on time, the trip can leave without you and the money is gone.

Cancellation, pay later and bad weather

Free cancellation. Unless the listing says otherwise, you get a full refund if you cancel more than 24 hours before the start; later, or if you do not show up, you get nothing. Some listings set other terms, so read the cancellation line on the page. Cancel through GetYourGuide, not by WhatsApp with the operator — the platform's records are what count.

Reserve now, pay later. On listings that offer it, no money is taken at booking. The card is debited 72 hours before the start. For a quad booked "tomorrow afternoon" from the sunbed, that makes no difference; for a trip booked at home a few weeks ahead, it keeps your options open.

Weather. The supplier may cancel at short notice for adverse weather, government action or similar reasons, and the booking price is refunded. We found no reports of desert trips stopped for heat or sandstorms; March and April are the dustiest months.

Requirements. If you do not meet a listing's stated conditions — the minimum driver age of 16, or passing the test drive — the operator can exclude you, and there is no refund. Check the age rule in the option before booking a teenager.

No 14-day right of withdrawal. Date-bound leisure activities such as tours and adventures are exempt from the usual 14-day online cooling-off period. The cancellation window is your only safety net.

How to read a quad listing on GetYourGuide

A Hurghada quad listing is written to sell, so read it in this order:

What the listing shows What it usually means
"From $12" The cheapest option, often the daytime ride without dinner, stars or outer-resort pick-up
"Duration 2–5 hours" Door to door, for the shortest and longest options; the riding part is much shorter
"Pickup included" Usually from Hurghada hotels only; Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna, Soma Bay or Safaga may cost €5–15 per person
"Sea view" On most loops a glimpse of the sea from a ridge, if at all; only a few routes ride along the coast
"Bedouin village" A camp built for the programme, with tea, bread, a short camel ride and a souvenir stand
"Stargazing" Looking up after dinner, unless the listing names a telescope or an astronomy guide
"Camel ride" Inside a combo, anything from 2 to 30 minutes
"Sahara Desert" Wrong: the desert behind Hurghada is the Eastern (Arabian) Desert

Then check the details that decide the day:

  • Riding minutes. Most cheap listings do not state them; comparable trips give 40–60 minutes on the quad. Ask how many minutes you spend on the quad, not how many hours the trip lasts.
  • Single or double quad. Some sellers put a passenger behind the driver at a different price; others allow single riders only.
  • Age. Drivers must be 16 on every quad listing that states an age. Under-16s ride as passengers where a double quad or buggy option exists.
  • Helmet. Ask for one and wear it, whatever the listing says.
  • A jeep leg. If the trip includes a 4x4 transfer, ask for seat belts: the Russian tourists injured on a jeep safari near Hurghada on 6 September 2024 were in a vehicle without them.
  • "Not included". A cash "safari fee" of about €5–10 per person on some listings, scarf and goggles at about €5 each, photos, tips.
  • The operator's name. Then look for it in our reviews.

Our quad tours guide explains the trip itself, from Safari Land stations to the camps.

GetYourGuide Hurghada reviews: what they tell you

GetYourGuide only accepts reviews from people who bought the activity, and its terms forbid reviews written by or for the supplier. With 1,000 to 3,800 reviews on the big Hurghada quads, the averages are robust.

Two patterns are worth knowing:

  1. The cheap option menus rate lower. Around ten listings at $10–17 share one menu — sunrise with breakfast, daytime, or sunset with dinner and stargazing — and score 4.1–4.4. Listings with one fixed programme at $23–53 score 4.7–4.9. The reason is not proven, but the gap is consistent.
  2. The platform's order is not a ranking of quality. GetYourGuide's terms say its sort order uses popularity and ratings, and also revenue including the commission suppliers pay, which suppliers can raise as marketing. Sort by reviews or rating yourself.

A brand-new listing with five 5-star reviews tells you almost nothing yet. A 4.8 on 2,000 reviews tells you a great deal. Between the two, a 4.2 on 1,700 reviews is a cheap trip most people enjoyed and a minority found disappointing — usually over riding time, pick-up times or extras.

Who runs them. Only two of the ten carry an operator name we could confirm from GetYourGuide's own provider label: the GoPro quad (Quad Tour Safari – Makadi Bay & Hurghada) and the sunset quad (Desert Fox Safari – Makadi Bay & Marsa Alam). For the others, "same programme" or "matches" means the trip's wording or route is the same as that operator's own product — GetYourGuide shows the operator's name on the listing page, so confirm it there. The most-reviewed listing and the 7-hour super safari name no operator in their summaries. Background in our reviews of Desert Fox Safari, Scorpion Safari, Makadi Excursions and Sea Horse Sahl Hasheesh.

How we would choose. For one desert afternoon with the best odds, the top-rated quad. For the cheapest decent ride, the Makadi Bay two-hour tour. For a quad plus a buggy without a long evening, the daytime combo. For dinner and a show, the evening combo rather than the cheapest evening option menu. Our best quad tours page explains each pick in detail.

Prices on GetYourGuide Hurghada

What a desert trip costs, by type

Per-person prices in US dollars from listings with at least 10 reviews, checked on 20 October 2026. Bar: cheapest to typical price.

Quads start at $9.98 for the bare morning option, the median quad listing costs $20, and half of all quad reviews sit on listings at $16.82 or less. Quad-plus-buggy or jeep combos run from about $22 to $52; reviewed buggy-only trips from about $45 to $95. Every figure is the "from" price — the cheapest option, per person unless the listing prices a vehicle or group.

What the platform price usually does not include:

  • Pick-up from outer resorts. Prices usually cover Hurghada hotels; from Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna, Soma Bay or Safaga many sellers add €5–15 per person, often in cash on the day. Our resorts guide has transfer times.
  • A cash "safari fee" of about €5–10 per person on some listings. We found no official source for it; look under "Not included".
  • Scarf and goggles, often sold at the station for around €5 each, plus optional photos and GoPro packages, and tips.

Is it cheaper to book direct? Not always — and the platform is not always dearer. Scorpion Safari sells its Discovery morning tour for $35 per adult on its own site against a matching listing from about $45 — but the platform adds its cancellation terms and may cover pick-ups the direct price excludes. BADU's Bedouin dinner costs €45 direct and from about $51 on GetYourGuide, while its Kharaz Malki jeep trip is €103 direct and a listing with the same title shows from about $63. GetYourGuide's best-price promise only applies to the identical activity with the same supplier, so it rarely helps here. See our price guide for the full comparison.

Both are option menus, so the "from" prices may exclude the dinner and the stars. The Headout listing names a "2-hour quad bike ride" and helmets but excludes scarf, goggles, photos and tips; the GetYourGuide one has 2,214 reviews against Headout's eight. Operator, camp and riding time may differ.

GetYourGuide vs Headout, the hotel desk and direct booking

Headout is the second platform with Hurghada desert trips: 16 of them, mostly listed in recent months and with eight reviews at most. Its quads look cheap — one shows $5.50 — but the pages add a cash "governmental safari fee" of €7–10 per person and €5–15 per person for outer-resort pick-up. Several Headout camel, horse and jeep listings are non-refundable. Headout's Hurghada desert trips are new and nearly unreviewed; add the cash fee before comparing.

The hotel desk. TUI sells its Hurghada desert trips through Musement, its activity platform, with Travco Group for Tourism as the supplier. They cost more — on musement.com from £31 for a 4-hour quad trip and £59 for an 8-hour quad, buggy, jeep and dinner combo, but include accident insurance during the activity and a 24-hour refund. Our hotel desk review has the details.

Direct with the operator or a local agency. Sometimes cheaper, often cash on the day, sometimes with strict refund rules. Some agencies ask for passport photos over WhatsApp, and one refunds nothing within three days of the trip.

Street sellers. No platform refund, nothing in writing, and you do not know which station you will end up at. The UK Foreign Office advises booking "at your resort or through approved agents or tour operators" (FCDO safety advice).

The full side-by-side is on our platforms comparison.

Before you pay: a GetYourGuide checklist for Hurghada quads

  • The operator's name on the listing, and our review of it if we have one.
  • Riding minutes, in writing, not just trip hours.
  • Your resort in the pick-up area, and the supplement if it is outside Hurghada.
  • The option you picked includes what you want: sunset, dinner, stargazing, a double quad or a buggy for a child.
  • "Not included": safari fee, scarf and goggles, photos, tips.
  • The cancellation line on the page, and the pay-later charge date if you used it.
  • A helmet on the day, long trousers and closed shoes, a passport copy in your pocket.
  • Travel insurance that covers quad biking. Many UK policies exclude quads or need an adventure add-on, and riding without a helmet can void cover (InsureandGo on quad biking).

The Foreign Office reports "several serious quad bike accidents involving British nationals in resort areas" and advises always wearing a crash helmet. Egypt requires desert trips to be run by companies licensed by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and there is no public register — so asking the operator for its licence and expiry date is reasonable. Our practical guide covers what to wear, heat and insurance.

FAQ: GetYourGuide Hurghada quad and safari trips

Is GetYourGuide reliable for Hurghada quad tours?

For booking, yes: you get a voucher, a written cancellation rule and reviews only from people who booked. But GetYourGuide is the agent, not the operator — your contract is with the local company named on the listing, and the platform does not inspect quads or include insurance.

Which is the best GetYourGuide Hurghada quad listing?

By rating and volume together, the desert quad with camel ride and optional BBQ, rated 4.9 on 3,798 reviews. For a cheaper two-hour ride, the Makadi Bay ATV Tour rated 4.7 on 3,168 reviews.

Can I cancel a GetYourGuide Hurghada safari for free?

Under the default rule, yes, up to 24 hours before the start, with a full refund. Some listings set different terms, so check the cancellation line on the page. Cancel through GetYourGuide, not only with the operator.

Are GetYourGuide Hurghada reviews genuine?

Only customers who booked the activity can review it, and supplier-written reviews are forbidden. Big counts are meaningful; a handful of perfect scores on a new listing is not yet a track record.

Is the GetYourGuide price everything I pay?

Often not. Pick-up from Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh, El Gouna, Soma Bay or Safaga can cost €5–15 per person, some listings add a cash safari fee of about €5–10, and scarves, goggles, photos and tips are extra. Read "Not included".

Does GetYourGuide include insurance for a quad bike tour in Hurghada?

No. GetYourGuide includes no insurance, so check that your own travel policy covers quad biking and wear a helmet — some insurers make it a condition.
